M.. Stapleton was born March 21, 1936 in Fitzgerald to the late Lee and Myrtice Purvis Stapleton. A life long resident of Fitzgerald, he was a carpenter working with his brother-in-law at Drexler Construction. M.. Stapleton served in the United States Army during the Korean War Era. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed fishing and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife Estelle McDonald Stapleton of Fitzgerald; filles, Shelba Jean Waller of Fitzgerald and Shelia Ann Stapleton of Panama City, FL; petits enfants, Katrina Waller, Brian (Kim) Waller and Jep Posey; petits-enfants, Chris Brown, Ashton Waller and Gavin Waller; Brother, Tom (Carol Faye) Stapleton of Fitzgerald; sœurs, Ethel (Jim) Drexler of Fitzgerald and Shirley Yeager of Moultrie as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Dorminy and Rudene Taylor and a brother, Lee Stapleton, Jr.
