Howard J. Cothren, 65, of Townsend, died Friday, Janvier 6, 2012 at SGHS Brunswick Campus. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Tuesday, Janvier 10, 2012 at Darien Church of God with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating and grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers. Interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Born June 28, 1946 in Appling County, Georgia to the late Purdie J. and Carrie Lou M. Cothren, he was retired from the US Army having served two tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the military Mr. Cothren became a tree surgeon and was the owner of H.J. Cothren and Sons Tree Service. He was a member of Darien Church of God and had been a resident of McIntosh County for 42 ans. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed wood crafts and spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brianna Marie Cothren, three sisters, Marie Latrelle Cothren, Yvonne Thomason, Bonnie Taylor, and two brothers, Tony Cothren and Leland Cothren.

Survivants comprennent son épouse 15 ans, Ruby Dell Cothren of Townsend, four sons, Howard J. Cothren II and wife Lorie of Ocilla, Purdie J. Cothren and wife Julie of Darien, Adam H. Cothren and wife Amanda, and Mack Hursey, all of Townsend, une fille, Donna M. Dinkins and husband Van of Darien, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, quatre frères, Albert Cothren and wife Audrey, and Lamon Cothren, all of Alma, James Cothren and wife Wilene of Brunswick, and Horace Cothren and wife Sharon of Metter, cinq soeurs, Emelyn West of Brunswick, Eloise Carruth and husband Glen, Marie Boatright and husband Ronnie, Freda Cooper and husband Gary, all of Alma, and Juanita Taylor and husband Benny of Hortense.
