Herr. Davenport had been a member of First Baptist Church of Douglas since 1958 and wasa member of the American Legion. He graduated from the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 1953. He was a veteran of both WWII and Korean War; he also served in the Army Reserve. Herr. Davenport retired with over 30 years of service with the state and federal governments. Much of that time was spent as an entomologist with the United States Department of Agriculture.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Lucinda Hobby Davenport, four sisters and two brothers.
