He was born July 10, 1945 in Valdosta, the son of the late O.D. and Mildred Turner Grooms. A graduate of Valdosta High School, he had been employed as Night Supervisor at the water treatment plant at Moody Air Force Base, receiving a Cold War Veteran Commendation for his vital services. He later began his twenty-six year career as an Insurance Inspector with LFC Nationwide, retirarse en 2011, and for many years he worked part-time for Pinkerton.
Larry was a loving husband, padre y su abuelo, and he enjoyed studying the different religions from around the world.

Josh (Amy) Commander of Hahira, Shantel Perry and husband Drew of Murfreesboro, TN, and Kyle Commander of Murfreesboro, TN; and several cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ida Commander; his father-in-law, Roy Commander; and nephew, Josh Commander.
