He was born July 10, 1945 à Valdosta, the son of the late O.D. and Mildred Turner Grooms. A graduate of Valdosta High School, he had been employed as Night Supervisor at the water treatment plant at Moody Air Force Base, receiving a Cold War Veteran Commendation for his vital services. He later began his twenty-six year career as an Insurance Inspector with LFC Nationwide, prendre sa retraite en 2011, and for many years he worked part-time for Pinkerton.
Larry was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he enjoyed studying the different religions from around the world.

Josh (Amy) Commander of Hahira, Shantel Perry and husband Drew of Murfreesboro, TN, and Kyle Commander of Murfreesboro, TN; and several cousins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ida Commander; his father-in-law, Roy Commander; and nephew, Josh Commander.
