On February 9, 2012 Rena E. Strickland passed away. A long time resident of Norwalk, Rena was active in the First United Methodist Church, the Norwalk Woman’s Club, and Meals on Wheels. Rena and Wallie Strickland were members of the Sprite Island Yacht Club and spent one summer as resident members and caretakers on the island.
Rena was born in Savannah, Géorgie. She graduated from Waycross High School in 1925 and married Wallie Strickland (deceased 1986) the same year. Rena and Wallie eventually settled in Norwalk, CT, where Rena worked at the telephone company and the Hat Corporation of America as a cost accountant. After the HCA closed, Rena continued to work as a bookkeeper at Russell’s Tire until she was 80. After over 50 years in Norwalk, Rena moved to Charlotte, Caroline du Nord, eventually settling in Lake Wylie, Caroline du Sud.
Rena and Wallie had three children: R. Joan Jackson (deceased 1993), Sara Jane Strickland and Col. Thomas E. Strickland. She is also survived by 5 petits-enfants et 3 petits-enfants.
A memorial service was held at Lake Wylie Retirement on Friday, Février 10, and a small graveside service was held in Waycross, Géorgie, on Sunday, Février 12.
