Archie Leon “Backer” Turner, 47, of Tifton died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Ricky Revels and Dr. Danny Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Griffin, Timothy Hamilton, Randy Gray, Wayne Lamb, Jack Lee, Johnny Lee, Doyle Spears and Greg Gladdin.
Mr. Turner was born May 18, 1963 in Tifton to Wallace Turner Sr. and Elizabeth Irene Turner of Ty Ty. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Thomas; his granddaughter, Chrisanna Thomas; and his sister-in-law, Jennifer Turner.
Mr. Turner, a lifelong resident of Tifton, was a member of Greater Life Church and the owner of Turner Painting Company. He was a go-cart racing driver who loved going fast. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and fishing.
In addition to his parents, his survivors include his wife, Penny Hancock Turner of Tifton; his daughter, Claudia Turner of Tifton; his granddaughter, Chasidy Thomas of Tifton; his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wallace Turner of Brookfield, Harold and Judy Turner of Orlando, Fla., and Gary and Jean Turner of Brookfield; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
