Mrs. Doris Jean Strickland, age 83 of St. Mary’s, Ga. passed away at the Senior Care Center in St. Mary’s, Ga. on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 28, 2014 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Strickland was born on May 16, 1931 in Blackshear, Ga. She is the daughter of the late Ola Nettles Bryant Taylor and William Franklin Bryant. She was a graduate of Patterson High School in 1948 and moved to Camden County, Ga. in 1949. Mrs. Strickland was employed for over 20 years as an inspector with Kraft Bag and with Gilman Paper Company.

Mrs. Strickland loved to work with her hands. She became an avid crafter, making dolls, crocheting and the like. She loved her flowers and grew them all year long. She always had a greenhouse for her plants, moving them in and out as the season warranted. She was also passionate about the Atlanta Braves and for many years she would have a season schedule printed out with the television lineup, so she wouldn’t miss watching a game. She loved fishing, whether catching them or just the simple joy of feeding them. Her warm heart and gentle touch will be missed by her family and friends alike.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Farley Strickland; her beloved children, Roger Graw of St. Mary’s, Ga., Gene Graw of Shelbyville, Ky., Randy (Shannon) Strickland of Blackshear, Ga., Ronnie (Dawn) Strickland of Patterson, Ga. and Ritchie (Jennifer) Strickland of Blackshear, Ga.; her brother, Jones Bryant of Jacksonville, Fl.; her sisters, Sara (Herman) Moore of Blackshear, Ga. and Joyce Brooks of Kingsland, Ga.; her grandchildren, Josh (Kim) Graw of Kingsland, Ga. , Amanda Graw of St. Mary’s, Ga., Shereen Hamby of Semmes, Al., Amber (Daniel) Warner of Lufkin, Texas, Ashlye(Colby) Thrift of Patterson, Ga., Hanna Strickland, Brent (Cassie) Strickland, Jacob Strickland and Abigail Strickland, all of Blackshear, Ga.; and her great grandchildren, Madelyn Graw, Christopher Hamby, Jealyn Warner, Ryder Thrift and Carson Hill.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Strickland joins her son, James Franklin “Frank” Graw and her brother, David “Bud” Bryant in Heaven.

Calling hours for Mrs. Strickland will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the Wainwright Chapel of Coastal Camden Funeral Home with Bro. Archie Strickland presiding. Pallbearers will be Josh Graw, Harold Brooks, Kyle Moore, Glavin Eakes, Ronnie Strickland and Brent Strickland. Interment will follow the service at Laura Chapel Cemetery in Patterson, GA.
