Funeral services was held at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Sonny Pate and Rev. Jeff Cummings officiating, Eric Tucker will give a Eulogy. Interment will follow in Mystic Cemetery, with military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Barker was born March 6, 1944 in Sylvester, West Virginia, where he graduated from Sherman High School in West Virginia. He lived in the community for the past forty-five years. Mr. Barker was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and retired from the Georgia Army National Guard, serving during Desert Storm. He was a former employee of Firestone Tires and retired from Coachmen Industries. Mr. Barker was a member of Grace Baptist Church, a former member, Deacon and RA leader at Irwinville Baptist Church and a former member and Deacon of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 99.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Love Barker of Fitzgerald; daughters, Candace Ewing and Cassandra Hancock both of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Sarah Ann & Eric Tucker, Dustin Ewing, Devon Ewing, Nathan Hancock, Landon Hancock and Logan Hancock; mother-in-law, Ollie Love of Fitzgerald; sister, Betty Jarvis of Elyria, OH as well as one niece and several nephews. Along with his mother, Violet Barker Harless, he was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Max Hancock and Tommy Parrish.
