Mrs. Harriett Strickland, age 87, of Douglas,  passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011.

Mrs. Strickland was the daughter of the late Robert Earl and Claudia Bowen Wheeler and a native of Sparta.  She had served as Director of Douglas Housing Authority and was a member of First United Methodist Church, having served as President of Shell Vickers Sunday school class, United Methodist Women and member of the board.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Strickland (George) Lewis, of Marietta;  six nieces, Suzanne (Johnny) Jackson, of Sumter, South Carolina, Cecelia (Wilton) Futch of Atlanta, Linda (Lowell) Keene of Bufort, South Carolina, Marsha (Dennis) Lee, Karen Moose, both of Greenville, South Carolina; and Pam Doty of Clearwater, Florida; four nephews, Dr. Ed (Amelia) Lominack of Greenville, South Carolina; Davis Worley of Pell City, Alabama; James (Dawn) Fernald of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Louis (Laurie) Fernald of Clearwater, Florida; three grandchildren, G.C. (Charlene) Lewis, Brett (Fallon) Lewis, Natalie (Sean) McCarthy all of Atlanta; six great grandchildren, Jack Lewis, Hayden Lewis, Noah Lewis, Connor Lewis, Keller McCarthy, and Eli Lewis, all of Atlanta; great nephews and nieces Jay (Tammy) Jackson, Kelly (Jana) Jackson, Brian (Jennifer) Worley, Andrew (Whitney) Worley, Meredeth Keen, Amy (Craig) Lazerini; and first cousins, James (Laurie) Dyal, Deloris (Bob) Burch and Carlton Wheeler.
