Mrs. Hilda Elizabeth Shives was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2011.She was born on December 29, 1929, in Taylor’s Creek, GA and was the eldest of three children. She worked for many years at Shaves Variety Store. She and her husband, Wendell, were managers of the Cherokee Rose Country Club in its beginning stages. Mrs. Hilda worked for a period of time at the CD Center helping with children. She was a wonderful homemaker, awesome cook and the most loving Mother anyone could ever be blessed with. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, fishing, being on the water and taking care of her home. She is preceded in death by her father Charles Strickland, Sr. and her mother Jewell Driggers Strickland, her loving husband Wendell K. Shives, two children: Judy Loy (twin sister of Joel) and Jeffery Scott. She is also preceded in death by her sister-in-law Carolyn Strickland and her granddaughter Kayla Lynn Shives Boyd.

She is survived by 3 children Joel and Donna Shives of Hinesville, John and Linda Shives of Fleming, Wendy and Michael Moore of Tifton and her daughter-in-law Cathy Shives of Glennville. She is also survived by several grandchildren Nicole (Niki) Boyd of Tifton, Jon Shives in the service at Ft. Polk, LA, Josh Shives of Hinesville, Cody Shives of Savannah, Jacob Shives of Glennville, Ricky Eggers of Glennville, Mikey and Josh Moore of Tifton, Jennifer Darsey of Hinesville and Chris Bell of Hinesville. She is also survived by her brother Charles Strickland Jr. of Hinesville, her sister Kathryn Shelton of Clarksville, TN, her aunt Willa Mae Unger of Savannah and several great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel in Hinesville. The family will be receiving friends 2 hours before the service. Burial will be in Hinesville Cemetery.
