Joyce Diane Raulerson Strickland, 67, of Patterson, passed away Friday evening, May 13, 2011, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, following complications from a double lung transplant.
Born in West Palm Beach, FL January 2, 1944, she had lived there until 1979 when she moved to Pierce County. She had been a nurse for 46 years “a career she loved along with all of her patients and their families. Over the years she had worked in different areas of the nursing field but public health had been where her heart was.
She was an avid traveler, loved to fish “both saltwater and freshwater” and loved to cook for family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear and was the daughter of the late Clint Lorraine and Mary Ruth Jones Raulerson.
Survivors include her husband, A. J. Strickland Jr., Patterson; three daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and Pat Bennett and Sherry and Jamie Bowen, all of Blackshear and Stacia and Jason Fuller, Athens; a brother and sister-in-law, Clint and Susan Raulerson, West Palm Beach; her godfather, Jim Miedema, Patterson; four grandchildren, Carson Bennett, Patch Bennett, Drew Bowen and Dowl Bowen and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
