Julian Smith, 62, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M., Friday, April 22, 2011 at New Bethel Holiness Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born August 8, 1948 in Fitzgerald to the late Fred and Maggie Jewell Smith. He was a retired logger and trucker who lived in Fitzgerald most of his life. Mr. Smith enjoyed fishing and gardening and was a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife: Pamela L. Smith of Fitzgerald; daughter: Esperanza Hope Smith; son: Jed Smith; stepchildren: Melissa Smith, Hershell (Sonya) Smith and Jessica (Chris) Jackson all of Fitzgerald; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers: Carl (Kathy) Smith and Leon (Michelle) Smith, both of Fitzgerald; sisters: Jacquelin Whitaker of Broxton, Geraldine (Felton) Richardson of Nashville, Rita (Robert) Anderson and Ruby Nell (Tommy) Stracener, both of Douglas, Ann (Ricky) Batten of Nashville, Juanita (Perry) Rogers of Vienna and Kay (Pete) Gibson of Waycross as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Jean Thiel and a nephew, Jamie Anderson.
