Karen Kay Nelson Lockhart, 65, of Ty Ty, Ga., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jim Duggan and the Rev. Chad Hall officiating with a eulogy by the Rev. Matthew Waldrop. Burial will follow in the Pine Forest Baptist Church Cemetery in Worth County. Pallbearers will be Spud Bowen, Gary Roberts, John Falotico, John Harnage, Harvey Kendrick, and Royce Bishop. Born on Nov. 13, 1943, in Pekin, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Ruth Nelson. She was a partner with her husband in Fund Marketing, Inc. and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty. She had retired from Tifton Aluminum and was a member of the Tifton Elks Lodge Auxiliary, where she was very active in lodge and social functions. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and games and working on charitable events, said her family. Survivors include her husband, Dan Lockhart of Ty Ty; daughter and son-in-law, Penny Shurling and Mike Marshall of Moultrie; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Gidget Shurling of Tifton; three sisters, Sharon and Don Follis of Lincoln, Ill., Donna Nelson of Lincoln, Ill., and Ruth Horton of Brandenton, Minn.; grandchildren, Kevin, Katrina, Lauren, Chandler, Austin, John Silas, and Kaitlin; one great-grandchild, Melody Cameron; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins. The family received friends on Friday evening at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
