Ken Langley died October 17, 2011 after a long illness. He was born April 4, 1929 in Meigs, GA to parents, Malvin Lee Langley and Gertrude Hayes Langley, who preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth (Boots) Cone on January 14, 1949. Ken and Boots were married for sixty two years filled with raising their children, loving each other well, and being good friends and neighbors to all who had the good fortune to know them. They have three children, Glenda Beth Langley Keller (Larry), Memphis, TN, Kathryn (Kathy) Langley Megahee (Jack) of Thomasville, GA and Dr. Kenneth E. Langley, Jr. (Debbie) of Ft. Pierce, FL. Five grandchildren, Reed Browning (Megan), San Diego, CA, Scott Megahee, Dallas, TX, Drew Terry, Memphis, TN, Allison Langley, and Bobby Langley, Ft. Pierce, FL; and a great granddaughter, Kylie Browning. Mr. Langley was a loving father to his three children and was always Boots’ steadfast and faithful husband. He lived his life as an example of what a Christian husband and father should be and he strived each day to teach his children these values. He was preceded in death by a younger brother and sister, Dennis Langley and Linda Langley.
He is survived by brothers, Ronald Langley (Joann), Edgewater, FL; and Rodney Langley (Joyce) of Zebulon, NC; sisters Donnice Almand (Bo), Moultrie, GA; Barbara McCord (Sam), Moultrie, GA and Judy Ivey (Harold), Norman Park, GA. Mr. Langley enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1947 and served for 18 months. In 1950, he was recalled and served in the Korean War for one year receiving an honorable discharge. Mr. Langley was manager of Foshalee Plantation for 37 years and worked closely with Robert L. Ireland and David S. Ingalls. After the separation of Cherokee Plantation and Foshalee Plantation and the death of Robert L. Ireland, ownership of Foshalee was transferred to his son, Mel Ireland, and his daughter, Kate Ireland. Mr. Langley continued managing Foshalee Plantation under the direction of Kate Ireland until his retirement in 1991. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He also passionately loved the game of golf, so much so that occasionally a golf club would be thrown in the air! Mr. Langley was a member of First Baptist Church, serving numerous years as a Deacon. He also served on the Board of Governors of Glen Arven Country Club and Thomasville Kiwanis Club where he and his daughter, Kathy, were the only father-daughter members.
