After 10 years as a breast cancer survivor, Laura Lee Beal Tebbetts finished her earthly journey and entered her heavenly home at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011. Laura is survived by her two beloved, beautiful and amazing daughters, Emily Gordon Tebbetts and Lauren Peyton Tebbetts and their father, Steven Paul Tebbetts of Westfield, N.J. Also surviving are her parents, The Reverend Doctor Lander and Cynthia Beal of Huntington, W. Va.; a brother, John Beal and wife Alicia of Clemmons, N.C.; two sisters, Anne Beal Tebbetts and husband Bob, and Sarah Beal of Huntington, W. Va. Surviving nieces and nephews are Wesley Tebbetts and wife Lisa (Ethen and Ian) of Hilliard, Ohio; Ginnie Tebbetts Lovette and husband Josh (Lillie) of Lexington, S.C.; Chris Oyster, University of Delaware; and Catherine, Eli, John Adam and Nathaniel Beal of Clemmons, N.C. Laura was born July 10, 1963, in Huntington, W. Va. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and Marshall University. She received her Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a unit director for the Boys and Girls Club of Huntington; a school social worker in Forsyth County, N.C., and Warren Township, N.J. She also served as director of the First Presbyterian Church Day Care Center in Westfield, N.J. Laura was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Westfield, where she was involved with the Prayer Shawl Ministry, Cornerstone Women’s Retreat and United Methodist Women. Laura’s life was blessed by many friends from her years in West Virginia and New Jersey. The family greatly appreciates their expressions of love and loyalty, especially during the past few years. The family also appreciates the excellent medical care and compassion Laura received from Dr. Michael Wax and the oncology staff at Summit Medical Group in Summit, N.J. At the end, Hospice of Huntington provided the care and support that blessed Laura with a peaceful passing. Laura offered encouragement and hope to other cancer patients wherever she met them. Her beautiful smile, gift of friendship, positive attitude, sense of humor and love for her family endeared her to us. Her vibrant spirit will inspire us always. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Westfield, N.J. A graveside service at Christ Church Cemetery, St. Simons Island, Ga., will be Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.
