FUNERAL HOME |

Mary Elizabeth Wells Hitchcock, 76, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, after a brief illness. Funeral service will be held today, June 2, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel, Madison, Fla. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Madison, Fla. The service will be conducted by Dr. Bob Moon and Janice Livermore.

She was born on Aug. 4, 1934, in Madison. She lived in Clyattville before moving to Lake Park in 1999. She attended First United Methodist Church in Valdosta and  Clyattville United Methodist Church for many years. She was a paraprofessional at Clyattville Elementary School for more than 35 years. She loved spending time with family, fishing, gardening and shopping for bargains.

She is survived by two sons, Charles D. ”Chuck” Hitchcock Jr. and Michael “Keith” Hitchcock and his wife Becky of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Lee Weldon Hitchcock of Palatka, Fla., Mary Kate Hitchcock and Hannah Carter Hitchcock, both of Valdosta; one brother-in-law, and three sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Charles D. Hitchcock Sr.; and an infant son, Gregory Mark Hitchcock; her parents, James Tulley Wells Sr. and Lila Estelle Bullard Wells; and two brothers, James Tulley Wells Jr. and Charles Angus Wells.
