Paul Leon Johnson, 85, of Stockton, passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 30, 2011, at Langdale Hospice House after a brief illness. He was born June 23, 1926, to the late Leon and Mae Timmerman Johnson in Lanier County. He was superintendent of Lee Engineering for 30 plus years before retiring in 1991. After retirement, he served on the Lanier County Tax Assessor Board for some time. Paul was a member of Stockton Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was also a member of the Lanier County Historical Society, Masonic Lodge No. 434, and election poll administrator.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Suelyn Johnson; two brothers, Harold D. Johnson and Robert R. Johnson; one brother-in-law, Laverne Clanton.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elsie Johnson, Stockton, Ga.; two sons, Larry (Carolyn) Johnson, Stockton, Leon (Diane) Johnson, Stockton; four grandchildren, Libby (Brad) Bennett, Jason (Ali) Johnson, Brooke, and Brittany Johnson; four stepgrandchildren, Stacy (Diana) Ray, Tammy (Tony) Holton, Teresa Kistler, and Scott (Celiah) Ray; three great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Sara (Donald) Seckinger, Stockton, Monteen Clanton, Orlando, Fla.; brother, Dale Johnson, Stockton; two sisters-in-law, Rachael Johnson, Valdosta, Marjorie Johnson, Valdosta.
