Suzanne Elizabeth Sherlock Murray passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011, at home in Lawrenceville, Ga., surrounded by family members after a brief illness. She was 89 years old and was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, John (Jack) Murray; her parents, Susanna Josephine Huber Sherlock and John Emmett Sherlock Sr., of Americus, Ga., and a brother, John Emmett Sherlock Jr., of Talladega, Ala. Suzanne was born and raised in Americus, Ga., went to St. Agnes Academy and graduated from Memphis State College. She was employed by Southern Railway Co. in her early career and served in the USO in Memphis, Tenn., where she met and later married her husband Jack in January 1946. In her ‘50s, Suzanne went back to nursing school in Marietta, Ga., and graduated as a licensed practical nurse and later worked at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
She will be remembered for her unending patience, her love of her children and her devotion to Jack. Suzanne was a great cook and seamstress, had a never ending wit and always surprising sense of humor. She fondly kept daily diaries and those will be cherished. Always concerned for the children and the unborn, she donated to many children’s charities and orphanages throughout the country. Her devotion to her faith and her daily Rosary kept her comforted throughout her years.
She is survived by her 12 children, Suzanne Pillsbury of Winston Salem, N.C., Dr. John Murray of Bloomington, Ind., Mike Murray of Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Patrick Murray of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Kathleen Romano of Waterford, Va., Richard Murray of Boise, Idaho, Cecilia Luther of Duluth, Ga., Brian Murray of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Valerie Houghton of Baku, Azerbaijan, Stephen Murray of Atlanta, Ga., Jennifer Candler of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Theresa Uch of Bay Harbor Islands, Fla. She will also be fondly remembered by 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
