Thomas Lamar Mathis, 48, of Tifton, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Aug. 20, 2009, at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Cone officiating and burial to follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Nashville. Allen Smith, Mike Walker, Carl Helms, Lamar Pitts, J.J. Scarberry and Larry Gillespie will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Mathis was born May 1, 1961, in Berrien County and was the son of Charlotte Boyd Dillard of Tifton and the late Thomas L. Mathis. He was self-employed in landscaping sales and was of the Baptist faith. He also served in the National Guard.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Mathis is survived by his wife, Carol Pitts Mathis of Tifton; stepfather, William Dillard of Tifton; two sons, Jamie Lamar Mathis and Cameron Lamar Mathis, both of Tifton; daughters, Kristie Mathis Roberts of Atlanta and Jessica Jones of Miss.; three brothers, Richard Mathis, Kenneth Mathis and Russell Dean Mathis, all of Berrien County; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
