Virgil L. Mixon, 92, of Ocilla died Friday, January 27, 2012, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, January 29, 2012, in the Brushy Creek Cemetery, Irwin County. Patsy Kemp will deliver the eulogy and Elder Edward McIntyre will offer the prayer. Andy Kemp will offer a message in song.
Mr. Mixon was born February 19, 1919 in Irwin County to the late Luther Reed & Mary Jane Purvis Mixon. Living all of his life in the community, he was a student of the Irwin County School system. He was a former employee of Cargile’s Grocery and the A.S. Harris Department Store. Mr. Mixon served Irwin County as Tax Receiver and later as Tax Commissioner, a position from which he retired. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by a sister-in-law: Betty Mixon of Ocilla; nieces and their spouses: Bonnie (Billy) Roberts of Ocilla, Jackie (Jerry) Pryor and Patsy (Andy) Kemp, all of Fitzgerald; as well as several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Russell H. Mixon and a sister: Louise M. Henderson.
